SwornRates is a service of Helmswick Systems Inc., a corporation in Ontario, Canada. This policy is about the personal information of our visitors and customers — what we collect, why, and what we never do with it. The rate data in the product itself comes from public US federal court records; that's the product, not your data, and it isn't covered here.
The short version: we collect the minimum needed to sell you a document and deliver it, we don't run ads or tracking, and we never sell your information to anyone.
What we collect, and why
- If you just visit: we count visits with Umami, an open-source analytics tool we run ourselves on the same infrastructure as the site — no analytics vendor receives your data. It works without cookies and doesn't identify you or follow you across other sites. We see aggregate numbers — pages, referrers, counts — not people.
- If you leave your email for the sample: we store your email address and use it to send you the sample exhibit and a launch note — nothing else, exactly as the form says. If you tell us your specialty isn't covered yet, we keep that request alongside your email so we can tell you when it is.
- If you buy an exhibit: checkout is handled by Stripe. We receive your name, email address, payment status, and the details you enter to build your exhibit — specialty, setting, and your hourly rate. We never see or store your card number; Stripe processes the payment.
- Your order page: there are no accounts and no passwords. Your delivery email contains a private link to your order page; the long random token in that link is what grants access to your exhibit, downloads, and re-renders. Anyone who has the link can open the page, so treat it like the document itself — and if you think yours has leaked, email us and we'll issue you a new link that retires the old one.
- If you email us: we keep the correspondence so we can answer you and honor refunds and re-renders.
Who processes it for us
We use a small number of service providers to run SwornRates, and they process data only on our instructions: Stripe (payments), Postmark (sending email), Google Cloud (hosting and file storage), and Neon (database). Some of these providers store and process data in the United States, so your information may be held outside Canada and be subject to the laws of the jurisdiction where it's held.
What we don't do
- We don't sell, rent, or trade your personal information. Ever.
- We don't run advertising or share your data with ad networks.
- We don't use tracking cookies or follow you around the web.
- We don't send marketing you didn't ask for. Emails about your purchase, delivery, or sign-in are transactional; anything else you can opt out of with one click.
How long we keep it
Waitlist emails are kept until we've sent what you asked for and you unsubscribe, or until we delete the list. Purchase records are kept as long as Canadian tax and accounting law requires. Your exhibit and order records stay available through your order page; ask us to delete them and we will, except the records the law requires us to keep.
Your rights
You can ask what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it — email support@swornrates.com and we'll answer promptly. We handle personal information under Canada's federal privacy law (PIPEDA); if you're not satisfied with our answer, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, we'll update the date at the top and, for anything material, tell affected users by email. We won't quietly repurpose data collected under an older promise.
